Senior Systems Administrator

Job Description
This role is responsible for providing systems administration across the region on premise, hosted and cloud environments, ensuring maximum availability, performance and security of systems. Part of the dedicated IT Solutions team in the UK, the Senior Systems Administrator provides support across EMEA as required.

How you will make a difference

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply subject matter expertise to provide recommendations regarding systems administration to management and guide other team members as needed

  • Contribute to the planning and development of the overall service

  • Install, configure, administer, troubleshoot, and resolve system issues as required

  • Participate as directed by the Infrastructure Manager in rosters and other arrangements necessary for the delivery of 24/7 services, undertaking responsibilities as part of the Systems Administration Team On-call rota, working flexibly to deliver out-of-hours planned and unplanned network changes

  • Generate reports /statistics as needed

  • Meet/Exceed SLAs

  • Serve as Systems Administration lead on advanced projects and/or programmes

  • Act as advisor to management and customers on advanced technical research studies and applications

  • Apply advanced technical principles, theories and concepts to resolve issues

  • Contribute to the development of new principles & concepts

  • Follow, maintain and disseminate approved procedures, including adherence to ISO20000 & ISO27001 standards


General Operational duties

  • Attend IT department meetings as required

  • Remain compliant with all applicable IT Processes and procedures

  • Support the Infrastructure Manager in developing and growing a professional and engaged team


Person Specification

Essential Qualifications/Experience

  • CompTIA Security+

  • VMware Certified Professional – vSphere

  • Citrix Certified Administrator – XenApp/XenDesktop

  • Exceptional IT troubleshooting experience in dealing with a wide range of different processes and systems

  • Demonstrable experience of working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

  • Experience providing system administration to company / mission critical IT systems and contributing to their further development

  • Experience supervising / mentoring systems administrator staff

  • Experience of 3rd line support with system architecting delivery

  • Comprehensive experience of supporting Windows Server 2008-2019 including Active Directory/Group Policy administration/ DNS - including replication and multiple site deployments

  • Remote support/diagnosis of servers/desktop/users


Specific systems administration experience of:

  • Microsoft Skype for Business

  • Microsoft Exchange deployment and administration - Microsoft Exchange 2013

  • SharePoint administration and maintenance - SharePoint 2010/2013

  • Basic SQL Server administration/database concepts - MS SQL 2005-2019

  • Citrix XenApp/XenDesktop and Citrix Netscalar

  • Anti-Virus/Endpoint Security - Preferably Symantec/Sophos

  • Netbackup/IBM TSM

  • Supporting MS Dynamics

  • PowerShell and VB scripting

  • ISCSI and Fiber Channel Storage Technologies – EMC SAN/Dell NetApp

  • RADIUS Authentication/AAA

  • Amazon Web Services/Azure

  • Certificate Authorities

  • Proofpoint (Mail Filtering)

  • VMware vSphere 6.5+


Preferred Qualifications/Experience

  • MCSA Qualified (MCSE would be advantageous)

  • Cloud certification, particularly AWS

  • Active Directory Federated Trusts

  • Clustering

  • ITIL Certified

  • Experience/ Knowledge of ISO20000 & ISO27001

Other requirements

  • Travel requirements: Regular UK travel for meetings, conferences, data centre activities and incident resolution as required. Travel for training activities may also be required. Valid UK driving licence.
