Forward Support Representative (Mechanical)

Do you have aircraft Mechanical system diagnostic skills with practical hands-on experience of fault rectification and system functional testing?
Northrop Grumman require a Forward Support Technician for a permanent role based at our Lincoln location.  Reporting to the Northrop Grumman Delivery Manager, the primary function of the Forward Support Mechanical System Specialist is to provide on and off aircraft technical support to 8 Squadron Senior Engineering Officer or his / her nominated deputy to directly support the generation and delivery of mission capable fit for purpose aircraft.
Representing the interests of Northrop Grumman in the Forward maintenance environment in the execution of the Sentry Whole Life Support Programme.

How you will make a difference

Providing subject matter expertise to directly support forward military engineering management to generate and sustain the UK Sentry E-3D aircraft in support military operations. Undertaking on-aircraft preventative, corrective, first-line and scheduled maintenance, together with modification, component replacement and associated repair activities to support the delivery of military capability.


The successful candidate will:

  • Demonstrate advanced aircraft Mechanical system diagnostic skill with practical hands-on experience of fault rectification and system functional testing in a dynamic, time critical, operationally focussed environment. 

  • Work to exacting standards, be able to interpret technical data and be familiar with aircraft wiring diagrams, system and component level aircraft maintenance documents, technical instructions, modification leaflets and engineering drawings.

  • Have extensive experience of leading and managing multi-skilled teams of aircraft technicians at first line and be able to prioritise multi-disciplinary activities to produce on-time fit for purpose aircraft.

  • Have large multi-engine aircraft experience.

  • Be flexible in terms of working hours that will include shift and some week-end working.

  • Hold technical authorisation commensurate with second signatory (supervisor) level.

  • Provide assurance to managers that maintenance activities comply with technical instructions and are conducted in such a manner that they satisfy governance, doctrine and mandatory Health and Safety legislation documents and orders requirements.

  • Have refined communication skills both written and verbal.

  • Be required to compile and submit aircraft maintenance related technical queries through the Aircraft Engineering Authority for transmission to the platform Design Organisation and component Original Equipment Manufacturers.

  • Assist the Military and Northrop Grumman Quality Management organisation to investigate, report and develop recovery actions applicable to reportable occurrences, as well as seeking opportunities to exploit continuous improvement opportunities.       

Previous or current experience of working in the military air environment would be advantageous, specifically the maintenance documentation suite, although training can be provided. Additionally, a good working knowledge of quality control process and procedure is essential, together with knowledge of Health and Safety in the workplace legislation.
