Corporate Accountant

Job Description
 Northrop Grumman are currently seeking a Corporate Accountant for a permanent role based in Cheltenham.

This position will work within the General Accounting team but will also work closely with the UK Corporate office to support their specific planning and budgetary control requirements.

How you will make a difference

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare Statutory Financial Statements and related financial information, acting as the key “in-country” point of contact for UK auditors and accounting service providers
  • Deliver improvements to existing processes and systems for the collection and reporting of financial information for the UK
  • Work collaboratively with the broader finance organisation to support harmonisation of key financial processes across the UK entities
  • Prepare Actual to Plan Variance Analysis and provision of related management information for the UK entities and/or Corporate Departments
  • Undertake ad-hoc financial analysis and accounting research as required to support key management decisions


General Operational duties

  • Attend Business Management department meetings as required
  • Remain compliant with all applicable Business Management and Command Media Processes and procedures
  • Support the General Accounting Manager in developing and growing a professional and engaged team


    Person Specification

    Essential Qualifications/Experience

  • Qualified/Part-Qualified Accountant (ACA or ACCA) with strong academic record (graduate/first time exam pass)
  • Background experience in Public Practice (Audit and/or Accounting Services)
  • Prior experience of Tax / Tax Accounting
  • Working in both an operational and corporate environment

    Preferred Qualifications/Experience

  • Preferably 2 years + in industry
  • Exposure to and experience in US GAAP
  • Experience of broader financial disciplines to include planning, forecasting and cost and management accounting
  • Project management experience


    Competency/Skill requirements

  • Sound knowledge and understanding of UK GAAP and financial reporting
  • Strong analytical skills and numerical skills
  • Proficient Microsoft Excel user, with advanced Excel, Word and Power-point skills
  • Working knowledge of Accounting Systems
  • Strong presentation skills with the ability to communicate financial information effectively across the organisation
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to engage with audiences/stakeholders at all levels of the organisation
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Adept at working in a fast-paced and changing environment


    Other requirements

  • Travel requirements: Some UK travel to attend team/customer meetings and training activities.
  • Clearance requirements: The post-holder must be able to hold and maintain UK Government clearances
