Job Description

Northrop Grumman are currently seeking an IT Desktop Support Apprentice for a role based in Cheltenham.

The IT Desktop Support Apprentice is a key member of the IT Service Desk team providing end-user helpdesk support to the customer base at Cheltenham.

How you will make a difference
 Key Responsibilities
  • Provide end-user services, including help-desk and technical support services
  • Ensure all requests from users are logged, updated and closed in line with operational level agreements
  • Deliver first-line service desk call management by telephone, email, tickets and customer walk-ins
  • Install, configure and deploy computer system hardware and software
  • Install, configure, maintain and troubleshoot end-user hardware, software and peripheral devices
  • Administer and maintain end-user accounts, permissions, and access rights
  • Assist the Network and Server team to ensure the appropriate patches, hot fixes, and service packs are installed on company-owned or licensed software in a timely manner
  • Check system backups daily and escalate any problems identified
  • Follow all Northrop Grumman policies and procedures, including adherence to ISO standards
  • Practice asset management for IT hardware, software, and equipment
  • Suggest ways to improve department workflows
  • Keep the manager informed of any problems, issues or concerns, escalating in a timely manner
  • Maintain the hardware/software inventory

General Operational duties

  • Attend IT department meetings as required
  • Remain compliant with all applicable IT Processes and procedures

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications/Experience

  • An IT-related certificate, or working towards certification
  • Has experience of working to deadline and under pressure
  • A strong interest in IT support, willing to learn on the job
  • Well-organised, with excellent attention to detail
  • Likes troubleshooting and solving problems
  • An engaging and 'can do' attitude
  • Equally able to work individually and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Able to cope with a changing environment
  • Good interpersonal skills, able to engage effectively with all stakeholders
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Innovative and creative approach, able to think outside the box
  • Able to write business correspondence and technical documentation
  • Has a sense of urgency
  • Good Customer orientation

Other requirements

  • Travel: Occasional travel to other UK sites as required
  • Clearance requirements: The post-holder must hold and maintain UK Government clearances
