Job Description
 Northrop Grumman are currently seeking a Financial Controller for a permanent role based in Cheltenham.

The Financial Controller is a key member of the NSS Business Management leadership team providing financial oversight to the business operations and leading the team responsible for generation of key financial documents and reports for the business.

How you will make a difference

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  • Prepare statutory year end accounts and co-ordinate with the Corporate consolidation team
  • Lead for year-end external audits
  • Manage VAT and tax compliance including supporting the business in understanding where tax rebates may apply to its activities
  • Complete year end corporation tax packs and assist in preparing comps / CT600
  • Oversee banking activities
  • Liaise with NG’s Treasury department
    • Monthly cash flow forecast submissions are provided to Treasury
    • Lead requests for guarantees, letter of credits and other financial instruments and liaise with Sector and Treasury
  • Lead and develop NSS’ General Accounting, Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable team
  • Co-ordinate closely with the wider Business Management team to ensure alignment, consistency and accuracy of financial accounts and reports
  • Accountable for the accurate re-charge of any financial shared services to other company elements
  • Review and drive continuous improvement of Financial procedures and ERP system workflows to optimise the team’s performance
  • Deputise/act as delegate for the Business Management Director as required
  • Understand/deliver to requirements of US GAAP (for NSS compliance over & above UK requirements)
  • Responsible for ensuring NSS remains compliant within UK GAAP, including leading support to annual statutory audit
  • Responsible for ensuring NSS remains compliant with all statutory financial legislation and internal financial policies
  • Remain compliant with all applicable Business Management and Command Media Processes and procedures
  • Undertake any other reasonable tasks as requested
General Operations Department duties
  • Attend Business Management department meetings
  • Support the Business Management Director in developing and growing a professional and engaged team
  • Remain compliant with all applicable Business Management and Command Media Processes and procedure
General Line Management duties
  • Understand and apply all policies, processes and procedures around people management, compliance and governance

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications/Experience

  • Qualified UK Accountant, with some experience of working with US GAAP in addition to UK GAAP
  • Experience leading and supporting a team
  • Extensive experience in business management
  • Compliance delivery
  • Demonstrable experience as main point of contacts for banking and audit liaison
  • Knowledge-sharing to drive financial efficiencies across the wider organisation
 Preferred Qualifications/Experience
  • Experience leading a multi-functional team
Competency/Skill requirements
  • Understand and apply all policies, processes and procedures around people management, compliance and governance
  • Expertise in technical accounting, including complex VAT and Tax
  • Adept in numerical analysis, modelling and scenario development
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to engage effectively with audiences/stakeholders at all levels
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Excel
  • Competent in PowerPoint and face-to-face presentation delivery
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Adaptable in a changing environment
  • Highly-organised with strong administration skills

Other requirements

  • Travel: Some UK travel to attend team/customer meetings, conferences and training events. Occasional international travel may be required
  • Clearance: Post-holder must hold and maintain required UK Government clearances
