Quality Engineer - Risk Manager

Do you have technical experience of working in a military aircraft environment? Are you a qualified auditor with knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Standards and principles?

We are currently seeking a Quality Engineer – Risk Manager for a two-year Fixed Term Contract (FTC) to complement the RAF Waddington Sentry E-3D Northrop Grumman Mission Assurance Team.

For this role you will be required to hold and maintain full Government Security Clearance

This role will require collaboration with external and internal Team Sentry communities, to ensure that contracted services and products meet or exceed the requirements of external and internal customers. In particular the role will focus on reinforcing Mission Assurance through monitoring Product Assurance and Subcontractor Quality Performance in an aviation environment.  

Working proactively across the Team Sentry community, and supported by the Mission Assurance Team, the role will develop close working relationships with Ministry of Defence customers to assure compliance and assurance at levels which exceed customer requirements and expectations.  As the Quality Engineer Risk Manager, the role will develop industry best practice Risk and Hazard Management processes, providing oversight of subcontractors risks to present an enterprise-wide visibility of Risks. 

How you will make a difference

Mission Assurance: 

  • Conduct audits, stage checks and reviews on aircraft and in the wider aircraft environment in both the Forward and Depth domains.
  • Coordination and oversight of Supplier and Subcontractor Mission Assurance activities to assure subcontractor quality performance meets contracted standards.
  • Participate/lead audits of subcontractor and supplier activities.
  • Undertake supplier/subcontractor evaluation, qualification and selection as part of the Business Acquisition Process.
  • Manage supplier and subcontractor waivers, deviations and discrepancy reporting process.
  • Evaluate supplier and subcontractor non conformances, negative performance trends and failures and determine root cause, identifying corrective actions and assisting in with the implementation of continuous improvement activities.
  • Produce reports and provide verbal briefings to internal and external senior managers.
  • Keep management appraised of supplier/subcontractor performance, quality status and risks.

Risk Manager:

  • Manage the Northrop Grumman Sentry Whole Life Support Risk Register.
  • Liaise with the Air ISTAR Delivery Team Risk Manager to ensure Northrop Grumman Risk Management and associated activities are aligned and support the Sentry Risk and Opportunity Management Plan.
  • Proactively lead Northrop Grumman Risk and Hazard management activities to ensure hazards are identified, analysed and appropriately managed through remediation and mitigation.
  • Provide oversight of subcontractor risk management activities to develop visibility of enterprise-wide risks.
  • Lead risk awareness activities, including briefings and publicity, to promote a positive risk culture.

The role will also assume responsibility for the Quality Management System documentation configuration and Foreign Object Debris (FOD) awareness.

 

Essential Criteria

  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Standards and principles.
  • Lead Auditor qualified.
  • Relevant experience of conducting internal and external audits.
  • Technical experience of working in a military aircraft environment.
  • Confident and articulate oral and written communicator.
  • Evidence of managing cross-functional relationships.
  • Proficient operator of MS Office, (MS Office, Excel, and Powerpoint).
  • Ability to attain MOD Security Clearance (SC).
  • Management of Risk and Hazard experienced.
  • Awareness of Foreign Object Debris prevention measures and awareness.

  • Technical background working on Sentry E-3D platform.
  • Knowledge of DAOS/MAOS regulations
  • Understanding of MoD processes, reporting, documentation and regulations.
