Software Engineer in Mission Engineering

Do you have a systems thinking approach? Are you comfortable with scripting in C++ or C and mathematical modelling? We have a unique opportunity for a Software Engineer or Systems Engineer to join us at our site in Fareham within our Mission Engineering team.

Northrop Grumman is an established provider of aerospace, maritime and land military equipment including aircraft/UAVs, EW sensors and countermeasures, avionics, communications and C4I solutions. We are expanding their System Modelling & Simulation team to conduct internal and customer funded research on new technologies and have an immediate need for an engineer with software experience to support the development of constructive and real time Modelling and Simulation (M&S) models and scenarios.  Working in the Fareham area this is an opportunity for you to assess of new system concepts and designs with advanced capabilities not easily assessed within traditional engagement and mission level simulations.

 

How you will make a difference
We are establishing an initial modelling capability working on location at our customer. This team will design, build and integrate simulation capability blocks into scenarios that can be utilised to answer the military questions in the area of UK homeland defence, Joint operations and Air operations.
 
You possess an engineering background combined with experience in mathematical modelling and a solid background in object-oriented software design methodologies and programming. You have strong communication skills and are able to represent Northrop Grumman when interacting with customers and are able to communicate across the engineering disciplines/technology areas with internal stakeholders and external customers.    

Key criteria required
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline
  • Experience in mathematical modelling and a solid background in object-oriented software design methodologies and programming using C#, C++, Python, Perl or MATLAB.
  • General knowledge of software programming languages and databases and the ability to apply to software domain. Programming languages encompass higher order languages, auto-coded languages and ‘script’ languages.
  • General Systems Engineering skills such as requirements definition, requirements analysis, functional design/decomposition, enterprise modelling, test & acceptance
  • General knowledge of real-time target environments, including processor and network architectures, communication protocols and simulation frameworks.
  • Ability to build, integrate and troubleshoot software components
  • Hold and maintain a UK security clearance
 
Also, we’d love it if you have experience of...
  • Experience of modelling and simulation software such as the Analytic Framework for Simulation, Integration and Modeling (AFSIM) toolkit
  • Academic or practical experience in fields such as aerodynamics, kinematics, guidance and control, DIS/HLA, electronic warfare, radar, infrared sensors, and/or communications systems
