Programme Director

Job Description
Northrop Grumman and our Joint Sentry Support team mates provide aircraft maintenance, engineering and logistics support to the Sentry Fleet at the Royal Air Force (RAF) Waddington and at worldwide forward deployed locations as required. Sentry Whole Life Support Programme (WLSP) provides a crucial command, control and air battlespace management service to both UK and coalition air, surface and land forces.

The position will direct all phases of the WLSP. The post holder will be responsible for the cost, schedule and technical performance for all aspects of the programme, including negotiation of contracts and contract changes, preparation of proposals, business plans, proposal work statements and specifications, operating budgets and financial terms/conditions of a contract.

The Programme Director is the primary Northrop Grumman customer contact for all Sentry WLSP programme activities.  This position will interact with senior leadership within Northrop Grumman and the Royal Air-Force/Ministry of Defense directing all phases of the Sentry Whole Life Support Programme (WLSP).

How you will make a difference

Responsibilities of the role are as follows:

  • Ensure the Sentry team is operating to the highest standards for quality, technical manufacturing/maintenance and administrative performance, including site management functions for the Northrop Grumman Waddington UK location
  • Responsible for establishing programme key milestones and monitoring adherence to master plans and schedules.
  • Identify programme problems/challenges and obtain practical solutions, such as allocation of resources or changing contractual specifications
  • Engaging customers and sub-contractors proactively to address complex challenges
  • Lead programme review sessions with customers and Northrop Grumman sub-contractors to discuss cost, schedule, and technical performance.
  • Responsible for developing new business plans and/or expanding the core product line business with the Ministry of Defense customer.
  • Develop/coordinate clear, concise and compelling executive communications
  • Perform integrated planning, monitoring and control status across the entire programme management domain, communicate that status to the TS Sector, GLM Division and SMES Business unit leadership teams, 
  • Participate in, and may be called upon, to represent the organisation for Non-Advocate Reviews (NARs), Baseline Reviews, Programme Visibility Reviews, Programme Life Cycle Reviews and other independent reviews of programmes across the GLM division
  • Facilitate human capital strategies to promote processes and infrastructure for career development, cross functional rotations and mentoring
  • Maintain and support relationships with functional organisation’s peer leadership across the GLM division and TS Sector.
  • Will be required to attend local community/government functions to promote a positive Northrop Grumman presence in the UK.

Essential technical and professional expertise: 
•Relevant Bachelor’s degree in a related technical field and/or  significant and demonstrable equivalent experience
•Prior Programme Management experience on an aircraft maintenance and modernization programme
•Thorough understanding of Programme Management and mastery of the application of sound planning, scheduling and integrated risk approach to programmes.
•Risk management and change management experience
•A well-developed approach to problem solving and decision making
•Successful track record in project delivery and/or services involving multi-disciplinary teams. 
•Track record of creating enduring client relationships based on trust & credible project execution.
•Eligibility/ability to travel 30-50% of the time 
•Secret Clearance or ability to obtain one in a short period of time.

Preferred technical and professional expertise:
•Earned Value Management (EVM) trained with practical EV experience
Experience working within the Royal Air Force / Ministry of Defense processes
•Excellent understanding of aircraft maintenance/modernization practices and policies
•General understanding of aircraft regulatory mandates in the UK (C.A.A/M.A.A)
•Current Security Clearance (Secret)
