Lead Software Engineer (Java)

Job Description
Are you a hands on and technical contractor looking for a new position where you will work on game-changing development programmes across cyber security?
 
Do you have experience providing  technical assistance to Sales and Bid teams, particularly in supporting the preparation of bids, and assisting with customer demonstrations? 

Due to the success of a number of strategic Gloucestershire based programmes, we are growing our Software Development team with creative and dynamic Software Engineers.

How you will make a difference

Primarily working with the Product Team that is responsible for a suite of Command and Control software applications. Your position is operational within a broad range of architectures, by a number of customers, in countries throughout the world and is used for; military operations, homeland defence, crisis management and conflict resolution.

You will be asked to support the team in scrum/agile development, software design, requirements analysis, conducting research & development on new software technologies and supporting the pursuit of new business.

Key criteria required...

  • Be responsible for complete work package or development activity.
  • Assist with Requirements Analysis and Definition.
  • Understand the scope of the customer requirements, and assist in identifying if software design meets or is exceeding the requirement.
  • Identify changes to requirements which may provide an opportunity for additional stretch proposals.
  •  Assist with the set up/design of a project's software and hardware development environment.
  • Take charge in the maintenance of the project development environment.
  • Provide technical assistance to Sales and Bid teams, particularly in supporting the preparation of bids, and assisting with customer demonstrations.
  • Has deep experience in Java and the use of object oriented design
  • Keen to learn a broad range of new technologies on the Java stack

Also, we’d love it if you have experience of...

  • Experience of UK Government working practices
  • Working knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodologies, such as Confluence, Jira and Wiki’s
  • Exposure to DevOps approaches and associated tools e.g. Bamboo, BitBucket, Stash & Jenkins
  • Knowledge and experience with Nifi
  • Technical exposure of Messaging Technologies
  • Linux operating systems (Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server/CentOS)
  • Experience across different programming languages, such as: Java EE, Python, C++
  • Working experience across some of the following frameworks: EJB, JSF, Spring, JUnit, EasyMock
  • Experience with open source products, e.g. Apache Foundation products.
