How you will make a difference

You will be responsible for providing support to the Project Manager in delivering the following Project Management competencies and taking responsibility for routine project assignments:

Business Acumen           

  • Knowledge, insights and understanding of business and financial concepts, tools and processes.
  • Knowledge of the different types of contracts.
  • Understanding of the process and associated strategies for successful contract negotiations.

Planning, Scope, Cost, Schedule, Earned Value                  

  • Support the planning, definition, establishment, communication, monitoring and control of the project scope in the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).
  • Support the definition of an effective project organisation, against requirements in an Organisation Breakdown Structure (OBS) that aligns with the WBS.
  • By working with the Programme Cost Analyst support the development of an Integrated Master Plan (IMP) and Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) with activities and milestones including subcontracts that can be quantifiably measured and controlled. Familiarity with schedule risk and critical path analyses.
  • By working with the Programme Cost Analyst support the definition of the project cost and schedule integration in the WBS for performance measurement via basic Earned Value Management (EVM).
  • Support the initiation, development, integration and execution of the project.
  • Support the project team toward development of a solution/approach that is cost competitive, executable, and is supportive of overall capture strategy.
  • Support the development of plans for proposal and delivery phases of the project, project phases and customer milestones throughout the project's life cycle.
  • Support the project team in identifying, planning and accomplishing critical project startup activities in a timely and effective manner.

Project Integration          

  • Support the monitoring, identification, orchestration, coordination and control of the management activities and processes that integrate project interdependencies throughout their life cycle.
  • Support the maintenance of the integration of the requirements, cost and schedule baselines, the project plan and subcontracts throughout project delivery under firm change control.
  • Support the management and control of milestones identified in the project's IMP/IMS to maintain the focus on the completion of major phases of the project by stakeholders.
  • By working with the Programme Cost Analyst support the monitoring and analysis of the status of cost and schedule data using critical path and EVM to identify issues and implement Return To Green (RTG) actions.
  • By working with the Programme Cost Analyst support the management of cash flow through the raising of invoices and control of expenditures.
  • Support the satisfaction of contractual deliverables.

Resources          

  • Support the planning, identification, estimation, cost, acquisition, scheduling and retiring resources needed to satisfy project requirements within organizational constraints.

Requirements  

  • Support the management of requirements to ensure that all of the work required and only the work required is performed.

Technical Performance

  • Support the establishment of verifiable requirements, monitor and compare technical performance measures, assess deliverables for customer satisfaction.
  • Knowledge of the operations, logistics support functions and service level agreements.

Communications            

  • Support communications with stakeholders through organized processes to ensure that project information is exchanged.
  • Support timely reporting procedures in accordance with a project's Business Rhythms and associated metrics.

Quality

  • Support planning and execution of the project quality management system to satisfy quality requirements and create a project value system.
  • Support a continuous improvement project mind-set and a corrective and preventive action system to prioritise and address quality issues.
  • Support performance quantitatively for superior performance with respect to customers’ commitments.
  • Knowledgeable in the importance of audits, overseeing preparation for audits.
  • Understands Mission Assurance requirements.

Configuration & Change

  • Support the establishing and maintaining consistency of a product's performance, functional and physical attributes throughout its life.
  • Support control change (with contracts) to ensure that all changes are documented, assessed for impact, efficiently actioned to avoid disruption to cost, schedule and resources.

Risk & Opportunity        

  • Support the reduction of project uncertainty through effective planning, identification, assessment and handling of risks and opportunities.

Issues & Problem Resolution      

  • Support the identification and addressing of issue and problem resolution that identifies the root cause and implement appropriate RTG actions.
  • Support the application of management reserve delegations to manage project unknowns.

Subcontract / Supplier

  • Working closely with the Subcontract Administrator, support the identification, selection, direction and management of subcontracts and supply chain.
  • Working closely with the Subcontract Administrator, support supplier source selection decision processes.
  • Knowledge of Teaming Agreements and the ability to execute them.
  • Working closely with the Subcontract Administrator, support the implementation of a responsive, compliant subcontracting approach.
  • Use a subcontractor’s procedures and tools to monitor/analyse requirements, product, cost, and schedule performance by means of agreed-to success criteria.

Project Growth

  • Support the recognition of and response to customer needs to develop additional sales.
  • Support the team's understanding of the customers' perceptions, critical challenges, key requirements, intended concepts of employment and success criteria.
  • Understand what the customer expects on both formal and informal levels and ensure that actions taken will satisfy their expectations.

Key Criteria Required…

  • PM Degree or part PM Degree or Professional PM Certification (e.g. PRINCE2 Foundation or APM Project Fundamentals)
  • Acted as a team member for a minimum of 1 year in a Project Management environment supporting the management of Project Schedule and supporting Project Finances up to £1M
  • Competency/Skill requirements:
  1. Aptitude for Project Management
  2. Exemplary Leadership Characteristics
  3. Strong analytical skills
  4. Good collaborative interpersonal skills for written, oral and face to face communications and presentations
  5. Capable of dealing with conflicting priorities between different specialist groups
